CONCLUSIONS
The monitoring results show that migration of methane concentrations greater than 5% is present
in only one probe (the deep probe of GW-3). Past quarters have shown gas levels above 5% in
all the wells along the labor camp (GW-1 to GW-3), and in GW-12. Detections below the 5%
limit occurred in various wells, including these, during the Fourth Quarter Monitoring Event.
Steps are being taken to address the exceedence in GW-3 and reduce the amount of migration in
the other wells showing traces of migration. The county is in the process of retaining the services
of an engineering consulting firm to evaluate the current conditions at the Harney Lane Sanitary
Landfill. Meanwhile, adjustments are continuously being made to run the system more
efficiently and control gas migration. Per your request, an expeditious time-line detailing the
County's intentions for the remediation of the continued gas migration exceedence is currently
being drafted and will be submitted to your office in a timely manner.
Monitoring will continue with the next monitoring event in January 2001. Further monitoring
will help determine if the gas control system is working efficiently.
N:\Najee\HI\Gas\4th2OOOgas.wpd
5
l
