However,two of
these constituents were found in the field, trip, and lab blanks, and we conclude that these detections were
due to laboratory error. The third constituent(Xylenes)was detected in trace concentrations at MW-2.
The County did not resample for these constituents.
Hexavalent chromium was detected at trace concentrations in MW-3 and MW-4. The concentrations of
hexavalent chromium were very low(4 parts per billion),and therefore, the chromium is assumed to be
from natural sources.
Surface water samples were taken during the first quarter monitoring event. Statistical analysis of the
data from those samples suggest that the concentration limit for Chloride was exceeded at downstream
sampling point S-2. However, the concentration of Chloride at S-2 was the same as S-1,which is the
upstream sampling location. Therefore, this technical"exceedence"is an artifact of the statistical analysis
method, and does not indicate degradation of surface water by the landfill.
This report was prepared to comply with current Waste Discharge Requirements Order No. 96-139.
If you have any questions, please call me at(209)468-3066.
Sincerely,
W.
