KLEINFELDER
6 CONSTRUCTION
6.1 TEST PAD
The test pad foundation and low permeability layers will be compacted with the same type
of equipment designated for construction of the final cover to determine whether the
specified moisture/density and density/permeability relationships determined in the
laboratory can be achieved in the field with the designated compaction equipment and the
specified lift thickness.
The location of the low permeability test pad will be selected by the County Project
Manager with the concurrence of the CQA Officer. The test pad will be approximately 40
y feet by 40 feet, so constructed and placed that construction equipment can reach normal
operating speed before it reaches the test pad, and with sufficient space at the far end of
the test pad that equipment can maintain normal operating speed all the way across the
test pad. The width of the top of the test pad shall be not less than three times the width of
the widest piece of equipment used.
6.2 CONSTRUCTION OF THE FINAL COVER
FF6.2.1 Foundation Layer
The foundation layer fill shall be on or off site materials meeting the requirements of
L Chapter 15, and shall be placed in lifts not exceeding 8 inches in loose depth. The
completed foundation layer shall be not less than 2-feet thick. Compaction of the lower
Lfoot shall be to the maximum practical based on optimum moisture content. The upper
foot of the foundation layer shall be compacted to at least 90 percent of maximum dry
Ldensity as defined by ASTM D 1557. Where the lower one foot of the foundation layer is
already in place as temporary cover, it may be compacted in place to the maximum
practical density.
L
l
L
CR9-42 Page 18 of 28
LCopyright 1991 Kteinfetder, Inc.
