KLEINFELDER
(g) The measurement for thickness of soil liner shall take into account the sheepsfoot
indentions of the upper lift.
(h) In any area where heavy construction equipment cannot be used, a pure imported
clay soil will be required. Compaction of soil along the edge of any construction
appurtenances shall be achieved by hand application and hand compaction of the
soil. At this time, there are no known construction appurtenances at the site.
(i) The location and frequency of field and laboratory testing shall be as set forth in
Section 7.2 or as modified by the CQA monitor.
(j) Any materials which after placement and compaction do not meet design criteria
shall be reworked or removed and replaced to meet specification.
(k) The compacted soil liner shall have a permeability of 1x10-6 cm/sec or less.
(1) During construction, finished lifts or sections of compacted barrier layer shall be
_.: sprinkled with water as required to prevent drying and desiccation prior to
application of the vegetative layer. The vegetative layer shall be placed as soon as
possible after completion of compaction as approved by the Engineer and CQA
officer.
i'
6.2.3 Vegetative Layer
c
Available onsite soils will be used to construct the vegetative layer. Soils with a high sand
content will not be used due to their susceptability to erosion and desiccation. The
vegetative layer will be at least one-foot thick and will be compacted to a density of 80 to
r 85 percent. Higher levels of compaction will not be accepted since the growth of
vegetation may be inhibited. The plant seed shall be applied as soon as possible after
completion of the vegetative layer or a section of the vegetative layer.
i"
6.3 Results from Test Pad
Kleinfelder will evaluate the data from testing and develop minimum specifications for the
construction of the barrier layer. The results of the test pad and the construction
procedures and specifications recommended by Kleinfelder will be in the form of a letter
LO
CR9-42 Page 21 of 28
Copyright 1991 Kleinfelder, Inc.
L
