File No. 20-1008-49.001 K L E I N F E L D E R
July 8, 1993
SUMMARY OF TEST PAD RESULTS
HARNEY LANE LANDFILL
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
INTRODUCTION
At your request, Kleinfelder, Inc. provided testing and observation services at the secondary
landfill site located on the south side of Harney Lane approximately 1 mile east of Jack Tone
Road. The purpose of our observations was to serve as a third party Construction Quality
Assurance (CQA) monitor during test pad construction.
PREVIOUS REPORTS
The following previous reports have been performed by Kleinfelder, Inc. for the Harney Lane
landfill closure:
• Report entitled "Construction Quality Assurance Plan for Construction of Final
Cover, Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill, San Joaquin County, California," dated
December 5, 1991, File No. 20-1008-49.
• Report entitled "Construction Specifications for Test Pad, Harney Lane Landfill,
San Joaquin County, California," dated December 8, 1992, File No. 20-1008-
49.
TEST PAD LOCATION
The location of the test pad was moved immediately south of the originally planned location
at the northeast corner of the secondary landfill site. The test pad location was changed due
to unstable "pumping" foundation soils encountered at the original location. The test pad was
constructed to allow a minimum of 50 feet spacing between the east end of the test pad and the
east slope crest of the secondary landfill.
BORROW SOILS
The borrow area was located south/southeast of the test pad. The majority of the borrow area
soils were classified as a brown silty sand (SM). Isolated pockets of clean gray sand (SP)
were also encountered. A stockpile of brown sandy silt (ML) was located immediately north
of the borrow area. Samples of the borrow soils were acquired by Kleinfelder, Inc. prior to
test pad construction for sieve analysis and the results are presented below:
Borrow Soil Description -200 Sieve (Percent Passing)
Brown sandy silt (ML) 54%
Copyright 1993 Kleinfelder, Inc.
