® Concentrations of major gasses (Methane, Carbon Dioxide, and Oxygen) and pressure were
measured using a CES-LANDTEC GEMTm2000 portable gas detector on August 7, 2012.
GROUNDWATER DIRECTION AND FLOW RATE
The general direction of groundwater flow, determined from the elevations of water in the
groundwater wells, is to the south, and was consistent between quarters (Figure 2 and 3).
Groundwater flow velocity was calculated to be about 70.9 feet per year with a gradient of
0.00210 foot per year during the third quarter 2012. Groundwater flow velocity was calculated to
be approximately 71.6 feet per year with a gradient of 0.00212 foot per year during the fourth
quarter 2012. (Appendix G).
STANDARD OBSERVATIONS
The site was inspected monthly throughout the monitoring period (Appendix H). The information
on the original field form was transcribed for legibility. The original forms with signatures can be
forwarded upon request.
RUN-OFF/RUN-ON FACILITIES
General
The HLSL utilizes a single facility to control run-off and run-on: a perimeter berm/road
surrounding the site, which generally prevents any water from entering the site. Water drains
® from the landfill property to the retention pond. A discharge to the Waters of the State occurs
when water is discharged from the retention pond.
No water was discharged at any time this past winter. The discharge pumps are not active
unless manually activated by Solid Waste staff.
ANNUAL MONITORING SUMMARY REPORT
In accordance with provision G.2 of the WDRs, the Annual Report shall include the following:
a. Tabular and graphical summaries of the results of the prior year, including, representative time
series plots and contaminant contour maps. This is included in Appendix F.
b. A summary of the results of trend analysis performed on each constituent of the release during
the prior year. This is included in Appendix D.
c. A summary of the results of water chemistry analysis of water quality data collected during the
prior year. This is included in Appendix E and below.
d. A summary of the changes in plume and/or groundwater geochemical conditions since
initiation of corrective action, based on analysis such as comparison of previous contaminant
contour plots. This is provided throughout the text and in Appendix F.
e. A copy of the Sample Collection and Analysis Plan. This is included in Appendix A.
f. Electronic copies of the following on compact disk:
Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill 9 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
2nd Semester and Annual 2012 Groundwater Monitoring Report County of San Joaquin—January 25,2013
