shredding process. Most liquids are volatilized during the
shredding operation and a silicate/cement treatment is applied to
the ASW to control metals leaching.
Daily and intermediate cover will be used only during winter
months to decrease the amount of rainwater infiltration. Daily
cover is not proposed during the summer because ASW and inert
waste are not putresible. Additionally, it is not anticipated
that dust generation will normally be a problem. If litter or
dust becomes. a problem during windy periods, daily cover will be
applied.
Although daily cover is not proposed for dry weather months, it
will be applied during wet weather periods to provide a surface
to direct storm water which falls on waste in the pit to the
storm water removal sump in the west side of the pit (see comment
J-1). The table below shows the waste cell sizes and required
cover for these cells. The requirements for cover on a daily
basis are shown f.or average, peak and site operational capacity
ASW volumes stated in A-3 of the RDSI.
WASTE AND COVGR CALCULATIONS
FOR COVE
CONTRACTORS
Cell Dimensions
Daily
H
W
L
CY Fill
Tons Fill'
Surface Area'
CY Cover'
Average Day
Peak
Capacity
4
6
8
20
40
60
20
40
60
59
356
1067
24
142
427
720
2560
5520
17
62
133
Monthly
Average
4
20
20
1185'
474
8320
200
The estimated average monthly ASW volume is 1185 CY in-place.
Assuming the average waste cell size, 20 operating days per month
and the assumptions listed with the Table, approximately 200 CY
of cover will be required monthly. (This may be conservative in
1/ Based on conversion of 800 lb/cy.
2/ Surface area requiring cover is based on area of sides and
top of cell dimensions shown.
3/ Cover estimates assume .5 ft and 30% loss.
4/ Monthly averages based on 20 operating days per month.
4
