that operation may likely involve less than 20 days per month.)
Assuming a cover requirement for 5 months out of the year,
roughly 1000 CY of cover soil will be required for winter
operation. Accordingly, a stockpile of 1000 CY will be
maintained by Cove Contractors at the site for this purpose.
Because the pit is already excavated, all future cover material
will be obtained from off-site. This will involve import of
appropriate amounts of clean cover soil for daily and
intermediate cover for winter months only and as a contingency
for periods of unusually high wind that may create waste dust
problems. Appropriate closure cover soil will also be imported
for the final cover described in Section H-1.1, Final Cap and
Site Improvements.
The depth of cover for daily cover and intermediate cover during
winter months will be 6 inches and 12 inches, respectively.
However, it should be noted that the need for intermediate cover
is unlikely due to the relatively small size of the disposal area
which will require placement of subsequent waste lifts within a
180 day period.
There is no on-site scale and Cove Contractors does not propose
to use scales at the site. The ASW quantities disposed of will
be measured and recorded at the source and available to Cove
Contractors.
Comment on Section A-5
RDSI neglects to identify source of imported cover material or if
present on site where is the borrow location.
Response to Comment on Section A-5
The source of the borrow material is unknown because the sources
for borrow material will be negotiated based on availability and
economics of local cover. Borrow projects typically may involve
a variety of sources as they become available based on local
construction projects.
Comment on Section A-8
RDSI makes no reference to a water truck which may be used for
dust control.
Response to Comment on Section A-8
The water truck is referred to in Section A-14.4. The ASW will
be received at the site in a moist condition. Therefore,
generation of significant dust during disposal should not be a
E
