Clayton Group Services Page 3
Standard Operating Procedures
SOP -3 - Decontamination of Field Equipment
by the organic desorber (methanol) and then tap water and distilled/deionized
water as described above.
6. Final Distilled/Deionized Water Rinse - Following the use of the organic and/or
inorganic desorbers, or detergent washing only if desorber rinsing is unnecessary, all
equipment should be washed with tap water followed by a thorough
distilled/deionized water rinse taking care to contain all rinse water for disposal. The
final rinse can use a pump or squirt bottle.
7. Air Dry - Following final water rinse, the equipment should be allowed to air dry on a
clean plastic ground cloth or other suitable surface in an area protected from air -borne
or other contaminants.
8. Equipment Blanks - Samples of the final distilled/deionized water rinsate should be
taken and submitted for analyses at a frequency as defined in the QA/QC program to
determine the effectiveness of the decontamination procedure. Chain -of -custody
protocol should be followed.
9. All rinsate needs to be properly contained, labeled, and disposed.
10. Report - The activities performed in the decontamination procedure and the
disposition of the rinsate should be documented in the field log book. Documentation
should include:
• Site location, date, time, and weather.
• Sample location and where equipment was employed.
• Location where decontamination was performed.
• Individuals performing the decontamination.
• Decontamination procedures, including solutions and solvents used.
• Source of materials (solutions, tap water source) used for decontamination.
• Handling of rinse fluids and accumulated solids.
• QA/QC sampling performed and analytical results of the QA/QC samples.
S:AEnnr\Proj\S0Ps\S0P-3.doc
