When in use, the heavy equipment such as the <br /> drill rig will be completely enclosed within the Exclusion Zone. Sample <br /> preservation will be conducted in the Contamination Reduction Zone. The <br /> perimeter of the Contamination Reduction Zone will also be identified with <br /> barricades and/or cones. No unauthorized persons will be allowed in the <br /> Exclusion Zone or Contamination Reduction Zone without approval from the Site <br /> Safety Officer. The work zones will exclude Site employees, the public, and <br /> personnel not directly involved in the activity. <br /> • Underground Service Alert must be notified of subsurface work at a minimum of <br /> 48 hours prior to the commencement of field activities. <br /> • As part of the on-Site health and safety meeting, a Site walk with the operators <br /> will be conducted to identify work locations (locations shown on the work <br /> plan/Site plan will be in areas free of utilities/subsurface structures). Mark outs of <br /> all utilities will be verified. <br /> • If pea-gravel is encountered while conducting subsurface work all work must stop <br /> and the SSO/Site Manger will be contacted for further instruction. <br /> • If any utility/subsurface feature is hit or damaged the SSO/Site Manger will be <br /> IMMEDIATELY contacted for further instruction. If the SSO/Site Manager cannot <br /> be reached contact the Project Manager for further instruction. <br /> 3.2.2.1 RAILROAD HAZARDS <br /> Some of the additional monitoring wells will be installed east of the Site on the Union Pacific <br /> Railroad Company property. Therefore, railroad hazards will be present during installation <br /> activities. The regulations and safety measures associated with working near railroads are <br /> discussed below. <br /> The Roadway Worker Protection Rule, passed in 1996 as Subpart C of the Federal Railroad <br /> Administration Roadway Protection Regulations, is a set of federal regulations designed to <br /> protect railroad workers and prevent accidents or injuries that result from the movement of rail <br /> cars, locomotives and maintenance-of-way equipment.
