e
3.3.2 EXTRACTION WELL DESIGN
The extraction wells have been preliminarily designed assuming the deepest portions of the landfill
are approximately 40 feet below surface grade. Actual well construction will be determined for each
location based on the CPT investigation and data gathered during drilling activities. The preliminary
well design includes:
• Well casing diameter: 4"
• Borehole diameter: 12"
• Construction materials: Schedule 40 PVC
• Type of well cap, bottom cap: Top— locking; Bottom-threaded
• Size of perforations: 0.010-inch
• Grain size of sand pack and rationale: 2/16 Monterey Sand based on fine grained nature of
waste materials
• Thickness and position of bentonite seal and sand pack: Sand —top of pack 18 ft bgs,
bentonite—top of sand, 3 ft thick
• Depth of well and position of perforated interval:Total depth—40 ft, perforated interval—20-
40 ft bgs
• Length of screen: 20 ft(0.010-inch)
• Gauging well: 1" diameter schedule 40 PVC well installed within main borehole to allow
gauging with pump in place. Screened interval and well construction details in accordance
with primary well.
• Further details are illustrated on a construction diagram provided in Appendix C.
3.3.3 WELL DEVELOPMENT
• Method of development: surge, bail, and pump method
• Method of determining when development is complete: When parameters have been
stabilized
• Parameters to be monitored during development: Turbidity, pH, temperature, dissolved
oxygen, conductivity to the extent practicable, given that the stranded water is in contact
with waste.
• Method of development water storage and disposal: 55-gal DOT approved drums
Dewatering System Workplan Stockton,Ca
Cove Contractors,Inc. 6 Project No.04.20090407.00
