Loads containing large volumes of yard and garden waste are directed to the
compost area, where they are used as feedstock for composting.
MRF
Collection trucks with loads of recyclables are directed to enter the MRF facility
through doors "C" or "I" depending upon the type of recyclables. As shown on
Figure 4, all recyclables from commingled, source separated, commercial and
industrial sources are dumped on the tipping floor where they are conveyed for
processing. Commingled recyclables are first manually sorted to remove various
paper grades then mechanically sorted using screens, blowers and magnets to
remove glass, metal and plastic. A secondary manual sort is used to separate the
various plastics and glass. Source separated recyclables are directly fed to the baler.
Non -recyclable material is delivered to the transfer station for disposal.
2.1.3 INCOMING MATERIALS STORAGE
The operating procedure is to remove residual waste as it is received. However,
qny waste material that is collected outside of the landfill hours is stored on the
transfer station floor until it can be loaded into transfer truck trailers for shipment
to the landfill the following work day. Based on the maximum inflow rate of
1,700 tpd and a bulk density of refuse on the tip floor of 400 pounds/cubic yard,
8,500 cubic yards of storage capacity is needed for each working day. The
station has the capacity to store 1,700 tons of waste per day. The storage area
within the transfer building is approximately 17,500 square feet which will
accommodate 8,500 cubic yards of waste at the maximum inflow rate. This
storage capacity is also sufficient to handle periods during the operating day
when the rate of incoming tons per hour exceeds the rate of outgoing tons per
hour including activities associated with sorting, processing and removal of
wastes and/or recyclables. Incoming waste is not stored at the facility for longer
than 48 hours.
2.1.4 LOADING TRANSFER VEHICLES
Transfer trucks enter the site through gate 3 or 4 and proceed to the ramp at the
rear of the transfer building. The truck/transfer trailers back down the ramp
which leads into the pit located at the back of the transfer building floor (see
Figure 5). The transfer trucks are loaded with municipal solid waste through the
Central Valley Waste Services MRF/TS 2-2
Transfer/Processing Report
(L:\Wstemgmt\2002.040\Reports\Fina1TPR\Sec2:05/13/02) BRYAN A.
