00 3.1.4.1 MATERIALS SEPARATION AND SORTING
The CVWSMRF/TS is designed to accept and process self -haul waste material,
yard waste, wood waste and commingled recyclables. Once a load of
commingled recyclable material has been deposited on the MRF tipping floor,
loaders push the recyclable material into an in -floor conveyor. The conveyor
then carries the materials to a sort station where the recyclable materials are
recovered and placed in bunkers by sorting personnel. Materials separation and
recovery also occurs at the transfer station. Typical materials recovered at the
transfer station include: plastics, white goods, aluminum, tin cans, cardboard,
wires and coils, glass, tires, wood, waste oil and gypsum.
3.1.4.2 STORAGE OF SALVAGED OR RECYCLED MATERIALS
Storage of salvaged or recycled materials is performed in accordance with 14 CCR,
Section 17409.3(d). There is no long-term storage of recyclable materials at the
CVWSMRF/TS. All recyclable materials are stored in either a baled form (paper
products, metals and plastics) or in containers, bins or bunkers (glass). Baled
• materials are stored primarily inside the MRF building. Containers and bunkers for
glass are located outside the MRF building. CRTs are accepted at the facility and are
stored at the transfer station building as shown on Figure 5. The CRTs are delivered
to a recycler, California Electronic Asset Recovery. Waste oil is accepted from the
public and is stored in a double walled, 500 gallon tank located at the northern end
of the transfer station building as shown on Figure 5. The oil is removed by
Evergreen Environmental on a regular basis. All recovered wood waste is stored on a
concrete floor adjacent to the western wall of the transfer station and transported to
the compost operation area. Composting operations are a separate operation from
the CVWSMRF/TS. For additional detail regarding the composting operations please
refer to the Report of Composting Site Information (RCSI).
Central Valley Waste Services MRF/TS 3-4
Transfer/Processing Report
(L:\Wstemgmt\2002.040\Reports\FinarrPR\Sec3:05/09/02) BRYAN A.
