transfer station building as shown on Figure 5. Oil filters are received at
the facility from curbside pick-up. The oil and filters are removed by a
licensed hazardous waste hauler on a regular basis. All recovered wood
waste is received and stored within the transfer station and/or bins and
transported to the green waste operation area or directly received and
stored within the green waste area. Other recyclables separated within the
transfer station such as metal, plastic, cardboard, and other recyclables as
needed are also stored in bins or in separate piles within the transfer
station. These materials are then transported directly offsite for
disposal/recycling, transferred to the MRF for further segregation, or stored
in the bin storage area north of the MRF/Transfer Station within
wood/green waste area.
The following average storage limits and capacities are presented
below for various recyclable items:
Item Quantity Storage
Time
Green Waste 60-100 tons 48 hours
Refuse >1,700 tons 48 hours
White Goods >20 tons 3-6 Months
Unprocessed recyclables 250 tons
48 hours
Wood Chips >400 tons Six Months
3.1.4.3 MATERIALS PROCESSING AND VOLUME REDUCTION
Volume reduction operations are conducted at the CVWS. Nearly all
recyclable material recovered in the MRF is baled to increase the
weight per unit volume. The facility is equipped with a Harris model
1135W 2002 baler, which is used to bale fiber and non -fiber
recyclables. A Bollegraaf model 80 2016 baler is also used to bale
additional fiber recyclable materials including newspaper, mixed paper,
and cardboard. The balers are located in the MRF facility (see Figure
6).
Central Valley Waste Services 3-5
Transfer Processing Report
Section 3 — 4/24/17
