Once a load of recyclable material has been deposited on
the MRF tipping floor or adjacent signed tipping area, loaders push the
recyclable material into an in -floor conveyor. The conveyor then
carries the materials to a sort station where the recyclable materials
are recovered and placed in bunkers by sorting personnel. Materials
separation and recovery also occurs at the transfer station. Typical
materials recovered at the transfer station include: plastics, white
goods, aluminum, tin cans, cardboard, wires and coils, glass, tires,
wood, metal, waste oil and gypsum.
3.1.4.2 STORAGE OF SALVAGED OR RECYCLED MATERIALS
Storage of salvaged or recycled materials is performed in accordance with
14 CCR, Section 17409.3(d). Baled materials are
stored primarily inside the MRF building and adjacent bale storage areas.
Containers and bunkers for glass are located inside and/or outside the
MRF building within the bin storage area north of the MRF/Transfer Station
within wood/green waste area. Roll -off boxes for storage of plastic bags,
metal, and other recyclables may also be stored in the bin storage area
north of the MRF/Transfer Station within wood/green waste area.
Universal Wastes (including CRTs and electronic devices) found during the
loadcheck process are stored either at the transfer station building (as
shown on Figure 5), designated storage container, or within the MRF.
Universal Wastes are managed per regulatory requirements in Title 22 of
the California Code of Regulations.
