Volatile organic solvents <br />generally are liquid at zoom temperature and often have an aromatic <br />odor. <br />A small number of chlorinated volatile organic solvents have been <br />classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as probable <br />or possible carcinogens. • In this group are suchchemicals as <br />trichloroethene and.perchloroethene. <br />The most common possible adverse health effect from short-term <br />exposure to volatile organic solvents is central nervous system <br />depression. <br />There is no PEL specific to volatile organic solvents. <br />61 <br />
