FP -i <br />FIRE PREVENTION PLAN <br />Forward Landfill <br />Manteca, CA <br />1. INTRODUCTION <br />Forward Landfill had developed this Fire Prevention Plan to enhance worker health and <br />safety, detect, alleviate, and control fire hazards, and comply with local, state and federal <br />regulations. <br />There is an inherent danger from fire during hazardous and waste materials handling <br />activities. Many ignition sources are present, such as cutting and welding, temporary <br />heaters, lights, open flame, static electricity, etc. Additionally, the accumulation of debris <br />increases the likelihood of fire. <br />I1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS- FIRE PROTECTION <br />The fire prevention plan will be reviewed and site-specific rules developed annually and/or <br />whenever landfill configurations and operations are significantly modified at the site. For <br />projects/tasks with extraordinary hazards, more detailed and specific programs and <br />equipment will be arranged. <br />A. The Fire Protection Plan must include the following essential considerations: <br />1. Proper site preparation. <br />2. Availability of private and public fire protection. <br />3. Safe installation and protection of temporary buildings and <br />other structures. <br />4. Adequate job site fire protection. <br />5. Minimizing inherent construction fire hazards. <br />6. Installation of permanent safeguards as construction <br />Progresses. <br />7. Safety orientation of employees. <br />B. Recommended practices and standards of the National Fire Protection Association <br />(NFPA) and other applicable regulations shall be followed in the development and <br />application of Project Fire Protection Plans. <br />C. Smoking shall be prohibited at or in the vicinity of operations which constitutes a <br />Fire hazard and shall be conspicuously posted: "NO SMOKING' or "OPEN FLAME" <br />FP1 <br />3/17/2011 <br />
