VII. OPEN YARD STORAGE <br />FP -4 <br />C <br />A. Combustible Materials <br />1. Driveways between and around combustible storage piles shall be <br />at least 15 feet wide and maintained free from accumulation of <br />rubbish, equipment or other articles or materials. <br />2. The entire storage site shall be kept free from accumulation of <br />unnecessary combustible materials. Weeds and grass shall be kept <br />down and a regular procedure provided for the periodic clean up of <br />the entire area <br />3. No combustible material shall be stored outdoors within 10 feet of a <br />building or structure. <br />B. Flammable and Combustible Materials <br />1. Piles or groups of containers shall be separated by a 5 -foot <br />clearance. Piles or groups of containers shall not be placed within <br />20 feet of a building. <br />2. The storage area is to be curbed or bermed to contatn100%of the <br />contents of stored liquid in the event of a split. <br />3. The storage area and berm is to be covered with an impermeable <br />membrane to prevent contamination of soil by spilled material. <br />4. When curbs or dikes are used, provisions shall be made for draining <br />off accumulations of groundwater or spills of flammable or , <br />combustible liquids. Drains shall terminate at a safe location. <br />5. Two or more portable tanks grouped together having a combined <br />capacity greater than 2,200 gallons shalt be separated by a clear <br />and unobstructed area. <br />6. Conspicuous and legible signs prohibiting smoking and open flames <br />shall be posted on all flammable and combustible liquid storage <br />tanks. <br />7. Storage areas shall be kept free of weeds, debris and other <br />combustible material not required at the storage areas. <br />3/17/2011 <br />
