•
Fire control equipment and procedures are being formulated
at this time. We will provide adequate fire protection within
the fenced compound.
Equipment breakdown at the station is corrected by a Mechanic-
Welder employed at the site. When extensive repair is necessary
the equipment is transported to our County repair shop in Stockton.
Mechanical breakdown on the highway necessitates towing to our
repair shop. Flat repairs enroute are repaired by dispatching a
repair truck from private firms in the City of Stockton.
A power failure at the station does not affect the operation
of the station as all the equipment has independent power sources.
The water well would be the only inoperative equipment at the
station and portable fire extinguishers can provide that needed
protection until service is restored.
Transfer Equipment
The following is a list of the equipment in use for the
Lovelace Transfer Station operation:
Tractors (5)
Trailer Containers (sets) (10)
Scissors Lift (3)
2 ton Pickup (1)
3/4 ton Pickup (1)
Compactor (1)
Sweeper (1)
Trailer, 40' flatbed (1)
Loaders (4)
The (3) scissors lift and (1 ) loader are in use at the Foot-
hill Landfill. They assist in tY-6 unloading of the containers.
Station Capacity
We are currently processing 2 ,000 C.Y. of solid waste. each
day. The station was designed to process about 500 C.Y. a day
when it was opened in 1962. Our records show a continual increase
in the amount of solid waste processed. Our experience closely
follows what has developed nationally in that the waste stream
is increasing in volume more rapidly than we forecast.
Peak Loadings
Lovelace Transfer Station has experienced some peak loading
which normally develops when we have mechanical breakdown of one
or more tractors. We hire a local firm to transfer the waste in
their compactor trucks to the landfill site in an effort to reduce
the amount of. waste to be transported during this peak loading
period.
-3-
. .iii .
