As discussed, the Solid Waste Division is
working to remediate the problems at the Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill. Confirmation was
received from the manufacturer on Friday, February 23, 2001 that the order for new pumps has
been placed. They are scheduled to be delivered to the Solid Waste Division by April 9, 2001.
Once they are received it should take approximately four working days to install all pumps. The
Solid Waste Division will review the Operations and Maintenance procedures and submit any
revisions to the Environmental Health Division for periodic checks of the gas extraction and
liquids handling system.
The operation of the blowers at the flare facility is the other immediate concern at the Harney
Lane Sanitary Landfill. A qualified repair technician has been contacted and is scheduled to
service the blowers on April 9, 2001. Parts have been ordered from the manufacturer and are
expected to arrive the end of the week of April 2, 2001.
The Solid Waste Division has contacted Kleinfelder to perform a site evaluation of the septic
system at the Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility and Transfer Station. A draft of their
proposal has been forwarded to the Environmental Health Division for any comments.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (209) 468-3066.
MK:vn
N:\Michael\HL\Gas\Hamey_update.wpd
Gino Yekta, California Integrated Waste Management Board
LA 11459
