Signs indicating what types of waste are prohibited are posted on the scale house. Customers are asked if they have any hazardous or prohibited waste within their load. 3.3.2 Routine Load Checks The County visually inspects commercial and self haul customers, and randomly checks commercial loads to prevent the unloading of any unacceptable materials. If unacceptable materials are detected, site staff will notify the customer that the load contains unacceptable materials, and that this material may not be unloaded. The customer is given directions to a facility that can accept the materials in question. qW Random Load Checks are performed at least once a day. This procedure is an in-depth search of the contents of randomly selected commercial haul vehicles to prevent the unloading of any unacceptable materials including hazardous waste. This practice encourages each commercial customer to self -monitor their own waste stream and customers. If a commercial hauler is found to have unacceptable materials, the information on the Load Checker's Log is recorded. The Load Checker's Log is signed by both the customer and the load checking inspector. This information can be used to notify the hauler and the Department of Environmental Health if the load is illegally dumped. In addition, facility operators keep a Daily Log to note any materials that escaped identification during the routine load check. These materials are recorded and removed from the tipping floor (Appendix F).
