PILE GEOMETRY
Feedstock: The dimensions of the compost pits are 3'X20'X250'. Three feet high,20
feet wide, and 250 feet long. At the present time there are two pits in operation. The
pile moves 7 feet per day.
Processed Material: The completed compost will be piled approximately 81X20'X250'(8
feet high,20 feet wide, and 250 feet long) until bagged or removed from the site.
WEATHER EVENTS IMPACTING THE OPERATION
There are two products mixed to produce the compost. The wood shaving, rice hulls,
and grape pumice are stored in a covered building directly next door to the composting
facility. Weather should not have an impact on the composting operation. The
poultry manure is produced daily no matter what the conditions out-side are like.
The poultry manure utilized as one of the feedstock's in the compost is produced on-site
year round. Weather changed will not impact or change production of the manure,
manure consistency,or timing of the product.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
Fire Prevention
Fire should not be a significant hazard since the feedstock of the poultry manure
contains a high percentage of moisture. The moisture content should be maintained
between 50 and 60 percent. The optimal temperature is 132 to 140 degrees F.
Temperatures are taken at random intervals along the compost pile daily.
Water Supply
There are several large agricultural wells on-site which have plenty of water pumping
capacity to augment fire fighting efforts. These can also serve along with fire
extinguishers as the initial source of fire fighting capabilities until the local Fire
Department shows up. There is a well directly to the north of the composting facility.
This well has a 50 horse power pump on it. Spontaneous combustion cannot be ruled
out; therefore continuous daily monitoring of the compost piles will take place and be
documented.
11
