y <br /> MANURE MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> for <br /> KLEINFELD EGG FARM - 1993 <br /> I. Manure Management for High-Rise BUildingg - Houses 17. 18 & 19 <br /> 1. Manure will be kept under the cages for the full length of production <br /> cycle (130 wks), or removed sooner should manure contractors require <br /> fertilizer for land spreading. <br /> 2. All management practices will be followed to keep the manure in dry <br /> form in order to minimize fly breeding and odor nuisance. <br /> A. Water cups will be checked daily for leaks and replaced as needed. <br /> B. Feed Conveyers will be checked daily for leaks, thus reducing <br /> rodent problems as well as fly breeding. <br /> C. Air will be circulated under the cages where manure will be kept <br /> to accelerate drying process. <br /> D. Portions of manure piles will be removed in case of water leaks, <br /> in order to prevent fly-breeding in wet areas. <br /> E. During high-risk periods(March to October),fly breeding activities <br /> will be routinely monitored and upon verification of breeding <br /> activities, necessary steps will be taken to correct the situation, <br /> including spraying for larvadft and an approved fly-killer spray of <br /> fly bait for adult flies. <br /> 3. After the manure is removed from buildings (East of the High Rise Units <br /> only), it will be inspected to make certain that manure is not left on <br /> site premises for more than one (1) wM k. <br /> 4. Manure will be removed to crop and tree producers as a fertilizer. The <br /> rate of application will depend on the needs of those producers and the <br /> crop being fertilized. <br /> II. During the months when fields are dry and manure can be moved from <br /> the poultry houses,conventional methods of"thin-spread"manure drying <br /> will be used in periods of seven (7) days only. Manure is to be loaded <br /> into a manure spreader ands read thin on approximately 640 acres of <br /> farming property as needed for fertilizer. <br />
