Within one year after starting to accumulate the waste lamps , the generator must transport <br /> them to permitted resource recovery facility . The transportation is exempt from hazardous <br /> waste requirements ( no manifest required ) , but subject to Department of Transportation <br /> hazardous materials requirement, if applicable . <br /> 9 . The generator must keep records of the generation of waste lamps and off-site shipments via <br /> a " Bill of Lading " for a period of five years . <br /> BATTERY MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS : As a universal waste , the covered batteries fall <br /> under the mandatory handling , storage and off-site management rules , but are not regulated as <br /> hazardous waste . <br /> 1 . Large quantity generators must notify EPA and have an EPA identification number or amend <br /> an existing number to include generation of universal wastes . Small generators are exempt <br /> from notifying EPA. <br /> 2 . Waste batteries must be placed into secure containers that can be sealed to prevent <br /> spillage/leakage and labeled with their contents . For example " Lead Acid Batteries" and the <br /> date at which the container accumulation began . <br /> 3 . After a period of one year from the accumulation date he batteries must be disposed of off <br /> site as hazardous waste . <br /> 4 . The generator must keep records of the generation of waste batteries and off-site shipments <br /> via a " Bill of Lading " for a period of five years . <br /> CRT MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS : As a universal waste , the covered CRT' s fall <br /> under the mandatory handling , storage and off-site management rules , but are not regulated as <br /> hazardous waste . <br /> 1 .
