Waterloo Road
Stockton CA 95215
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJC/EHD)has reviewed Quarterly
Report—Fourth Quarter 2005(Report)submitted to Geotracker on your behalf by Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE)and has the following comments.
The Report documents the routine quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling event that was
performed at your site during the fourth quarter of 2005. Analytical results were consistent with
previous events; significant total petroleum hydrocarbon as gasoline (TPHg)and methyl tertiary
butyl ether(MtBE)contamination is present in the groundwater in the eastern corner of the site,
near the underground storage tanks. The vertical and lateral extent of this contamination is not
defined. The lateral extent of the contaminant plume apparently extends offsite towards the
north/northeast. In conversation with AGE, SJC/EHD was informed that the adjacent property
owner, McDonalds Corp., has refused access to continue the investigation onto their site.
SJC/EHD recommends pursuit of an access agreement with the owner of the vacant land on the
other side of, and behind, the McDonalds site. In addition, the County Service Area (CSA)#15
which is located behind Ernie's General Store may have monitoring wells onsite to monitor their
treatment ponds. SJC/EHD recommends County Public Works be contacted to see if information
is available from this CSA.
In the Report AGE recommends initiation of interim remediation by soil vapor extraction (SVE),
the purpose of which would be to stop further migration of contaminants remaining in the soil from
leaching into the groundwater. Before interim remediation by this method may be approved, a
pilot test must be performed to determine if SVE would be effective at this site.
Please submit a work plan to continue the investigation of the vertical and lateral extent of the
documented contamination at this site. Include in the work plan details for conducting an SVE
pilot test. The work plan is due for submittal to SJC/EHD no later than May 26, 2006.
