14 December 2000
AGE-NC Project No 99-0559
' Page 10 of i I
' Analytical results of water samples are summarized in Table 4 The laboratory reports (MAI
Laboratory I D Nos 30201, 30202, 30203, 31858, 46815 and 46816), quality assurance and quality
control (QA/QC) reports and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix D
46 FREE PRODUCT REMOVAL
' Between February and March 2000, free product thickness measurements and free-product removal
were performed in well MW-2 Free product thickness was measured with a disposable bailer and
' free-product was manually removed with a hand bailer Approximately three feet of product was
initially measured in February 2000 After bailing, the water and the free product were stored on-site
in 55-gallon DOT H-17 storage drums The current free product thickness vanes from approximately
one-tenth of an inch to six-inches Field data and logs are included with Appendix B A manifest for
the waste disposal is included in Appendix E
5.0 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
' • Based on data collected during the preliminary site assessment AGE concludes
• The most intense hydrocarbon-impacted and MTBE-impacted soil is in the area of borings
B2, MW-2, and MW-3 at depths as great as 65 feet A significant mass of hydrocarbons is
present in the vicinity of well MW-2 from 15 feet to 65 feet bsg and to a lesser degree south
of the former USTs in the area of well MW-3 from 45 feet bsg to 65 feet bsg
• The highest concentrations of dissolved TPH-g and MTBE are in the vicinity of the former
' active USTs as shown by laboratory analysis of the grab ground water samples collected
from well MW-2
• TPH-g and MTBE impacted ground water at the site The limits of impacted ground water
Iis not defined
• Approximately six inches of free-product has been regularly observed in well MW-2
6.0. RECOMMENDATIONS
Additional subsurface assessment directly north, west and east of the UST area to determine the
lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted and MTBE-impacted soil is necessary The vertical
extent of impacted soil and ground water should be assessed
Based upon data collected during quarterly sampling. AGE recommends quarterly monitoring of the
ground water monitoring wells Ground water wells also need to be installed west of well MW-4.
i
