Sues Environmental Management Inc U-Hault+709 50
' 002-70950-04 2nd Qts 2003 Groundwater Monitoring RLport
6,27 03
. The data from the "B" and "C" well casings were used to create groundwater condition maps showing
the groundwater flow direction across the site Groundwater measurements were provided by GZA for
1
the Former Harry's Auto Mart's monitoring wells, and were included with U-Haul's "B" casings to
derive a groundwater gradient map illustrating groundwater conditions at both sites On May 5, 2003
the average groundwater flow direction using data from the "B" well casings and Harry's Auto's
monitoring wells appears to be predominantly to the north across the site (Figure 3) The groundwater
flow direction in the "C" well casings appears to be east and southeast across the northern portion of the
site, and east across the southern portion of the site (Figure 4)
It is important to note that these groundwater directions differ significantly from previously observed
groundwater flow directions at the site This is most likely a result of the cessation of pumping from
Frontier Motel's domestic well approximately three weeks prior to this groundwater monitoring event
Based on the May 2003 groundwater gradients, the "C" horizon appears to show signs of residual
pumping affects while the "B" horizon does not Groundwater flow directions are expected to have
returned to the previously observed southerly trend since domestic well pumping has resumed following
the installation of the carbon treatment system
In addition to water level depths, Blaes Environmental also measured dissolved oxygen levels from
selected well casings using a YSI-85 dissolved oxygen meter The method for measuring dissolved
oxygen content of groundwater is described in Appendix B The results indicated that dissolved oxygen
levels during this monitoring event ranged from 3 0% in well MW-1113 to 24 4% in well MW-IC
(Table 2)
3 2 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING—MAY 2003
On May 5, 6, and 7, 2003, Blaes Environmental collected 26 groundwater samples from the on-site and
off-site monitoring wells that contained water This includes samples from the Frontier Motel Domestic
Well, Harry's Auto's monitoring wells, and U-Haul's "B" and "C" casings only The current
groundwater level did not allow for sampling of any of U-Haul's "A" casing wells
i
•
