BlaeS Fnvirownental Management Inc U-Haul#709 50
002 70450-03 Groundwater Monitoring Report
I/25/02
. monitor well MW-3C and the central portion of the site (Figure 4) Most flow was toward the west, while
some was northeast toward monitor well MW--5C and southeast toward monitor well MW-7C
In addition to depth to water measurements, Blaes Environmental collected dissolved oxygen level
measurements from selected well casings using a YSI-85 dissolved oxygen meter The method of
dissolved oxygen measurement collection is described in Appendix B Measurements indicated that
dissolved oxygen levels in groundwater ranged from 0 0% in monitor well MW-4B to 46% in monitor
well MW-3C (Table 2)
3 2 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING—DECEMBER 2001
On December 11 and 12, 2001, Blaes Environmental collected 16 groundwater samples from the on- and
off-site monitoring wells that contained water This included samples from the middle "B" casings and
lower "C" casings only The current groundwater level did not allow sample collection from any of the
upper"A" casing wells
Groundwater sample collection involved purging approximately three well volumes of groundwater from
the wells and allowing the wells to equilibrate before sample collection Purging by pumping was used
to purge water from the middle `B" and lower "C" well casings Purging by pumping involved the use
of a 1 5-inch diameter Grundfos® submersible pump, new hose, control box, and generator The pump
was decontaminated before and after use using a liquid Alconox® detergent wash, a tap water rinse, and
a final rinse with deionized water
Typically the pump was set near the bottom of the middle "B" casings and near the middle of the
screened interval of the lower "C" well casings The average purge rate during purging was
approximately three gallons per minute (the maximum flow rate for the pump) Purge water was
temporarily stored in 55-gallon steel drums and later transferred into the on-site polyethylene tank
Periodic parameter readings were recorded on the field data sheets included in Appendix A More details
of groundwater purging procedures are presented in Appendix B
The purged groundwater contained in the on-site 1,000-gallon polyethylene tank is pending waste
profiling and disposal/treatment Currently the tank is at full capacity (approximately 1,000 gallons) and
6
