Blaes Environmental Management Inc U-Haul#709 50
002-70950 03 Groundwater Monitoring Report
1/25/02
3 0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING PROGRAM
The groundwater monitoring program discussed below included one monitoring event conducted to
December 2001 The measurement and sampling methods employed during the groundwater monitoring
event are discussed in the following sections
3 1 GROUNDWATER MEASUREMENTS—DECEMBER 2001
On December 10, 2001, Blaes Environmental measured the depth to groundwater in 16 of the 23
groundwater monitor well casings associated with the site The upper "A" casings did not contain water
and thus were not measured In the middle `B" and lower "C" well casings groundwater levels were
measured from a surveyed point on the top of the monitoring well casing to the groundwater surface All
water levels were measured to the nearest 0 01-foot using a Heron electric water level sounder The
water level depth and time of measurement were recorded on a standard field data sheet The field data
sheet is included in Appendix A and the data is presented in Table 2 Groundwater depth measurements
were performed in accordance with Blaes Environmental groundwater monitoring procedures presented
in Appendix B
Groundwater depths recorded in December 2001 ranged from 50 79 feet below top of casing (BTOC) in
well MW-7C to 53 82 feet BTOC in well MW-6C Groundwater elevations ranged from 33 06 feet
below mean sea level in well MW-3C to 33 17 feet below mean sea level in wells MW-8A and MW-8C
(Table 2) No free-phase hydrocarbons were observed during collection of groundwater level
measurements Other observations collected during groundwater monitoring activities are presented on
the field data sheet included in Appendix A
The data from the middle "B" and lower "C" well casings were used to create groundwater condition
maps showing the groundwater flow direction across the site On December 10, 2001, the average
groundwater flow direction using data from the middle "B" well casings was toward north-northwest
(Figure 3) The groundwater flow direction of water in the lower "C" well casings was away from
5
