ONCLTSIONS
Soil contamination is present beneath the old fuel dispensing
islands. This contamination consists of concentrations of TPH and
BTE&X above the maximum contaminant levels. Applied Consultants has
' estimated that over 1, 000 cubic yards of contaminated soil exists
in the subsurface (Figure 5 A&B) . This contamination extends from
the surface down to the ground-water table and is presently an
active source of ground-water contamination.
' The full limits of the soil contaminant plume has not been
determined.
A plot of the TPH and Benzene concentrations, figures 3 and 4 ,
illustrates at least two separate ground-water contaminant plumes
beneath the subject site. One contaminant plume in the area of
' monitoring well MW6 and one contaminant plume centering around MWI.
However, given the location of MWI, the historic ground-water
gradient vector, and the location of a known source of
' contamination, Applied Consultants feels that there may be two
contaminant plumes in this area.
The full limits of the ground-water contaminant plumes have not
' been determined.
RECONMENDATIONS
In order to determine the limits of the ground-water contaminant
' plume, Applied Consultants recommends that seven additional
monitoring wells be established on and adjacent to the subject site
(Figure 6) .
' Applied Consultants also recommends that a ground-water recovery
system and a vapor recovery system be established on the subject
site. The ground water recovery system will prevent the further
' migration of the ground-water contaminants and the vapor recovery
system will remediate the hydrocarbon contaminated soil.
' A cost proposal to establish seven additional monitoring wells and
to install a vapor extraction system will follow under a separate
cover. _
1
1
U-HAUL%7701 N WILSON WAY
NUB-93-M/U HAUL QM4 (Sb5020 2)
' 14 JUNE 1993 6
