In May 1992, ETS submitted the first quarterly update report which
included obtaining and analyzing water samples from each of the
three monitoring wells.
Elevated concentrations of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) and
' purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons (BTE&X) were detected in soil
samples obtained from the gasoline tank excavation, the product
line excavation, and in each of the three borings. The highest TPH
concentration, 3 , 300 mg/kg was detected in the soil sample obtained
from boring B3 at a depth of 65. 5 feet (Table 1) . Free product was
also encountered in the product line excavations.
1 Elevated concentrations of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) and
purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons (BTE&X) were also detected in water
samples obtained from monitoring wells MW1, MW2 , and MW3 (Table 2) .
' The highest TPH concentration, 7, 600 µg/1 was detected in the water
sample obtained from MW1.
The depth to ground water is approximately 60 feet below the
' subject site. According to Mr. Michael Infurna of the San Joaquin
Public Health Services, the ground water elevation in this area
fluctuates as much as 20 feet, seasonally. The hydraulic gradient,
' calculated by ETS, is . 001 to the west.
PROCEDURES
The depth to ground water was measured in monitoring wells MW1,
MW2 , and MW3 using a KECK KIR-89 Interface probe on 30 September
' 1992 . The KECK KIR-89 Interface probe was utilized to determine
if free product existed on the water table. Particular attention
was paid to MW--3 where elevated TPH had been noted during the last
monitoring event.
On 30 September 1992 water samples were obtained from MW1, MW2 , and
MW3 . The water samples were obtained by bailer after three to four
well bore volumes of water had been removed from the well and the
water level recharged to 80% of the original water level . The water
samples were placed in teflon capped VOA vials preserved with HCL.
The samples were then placed in individual zip lock bags and placed
in a chilled container for transport to the laboratory.
The three water samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) and purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons (BTE&X) in
accordance with the DHS Method (8015-m) and EPA Method 8020.
U-HAUL \ 2701 WILSON WAY
MJB-92-II \ UH-WILSON RPT (SD5020 2)
10 OCTOBER 1992
2
