Small Spills- In the event of a small oil spill, AutoZone employees will respond using
rags, clay absorbent, or paper towels to absorb the released materials. As part of the
process, AutoZoners will work the absorbent into the spill until all of the liquid material is
absorbed. The waste generated during the clean-up of the oil or antifreeze spills will be
placed into the used absorbent drum.
Small spills resulting from damaged or leaking retail chemical waste products will be
cleaned-up using clay absorbents, paper towels, or rags. The leaking container along
with all absorbent waste generated will be placed in a bag and placed into the
appropriate Retail Chemical Waste bucket. In the event an AutoZoner is unsure of the
proper container the waste should be placed in, they will contact the Retail Waste
Contractor for proper guidance.
Large Spills- A large spill is a release that exceeds the capability of the AutoZone
employee(s) to effectively clean up the released material in a timely fashion.
AutoZoners will deploy clay absorbents to build a berm or dike, in an attempt to contain
the further spread of the spill and to protect sensitive areas such as soil or storm drains
from contamination. Store Management will contact 3E to dispatch an emergency
response contractor to the store. Any waste that is generated from the clean-up will be
contained and properly disposed of by the contractor. All manifests or bills of lading will
be kept for three years.
Autozoners are trained to Properly secure of all Autozone owned dumpsters, This
prevents illegal dumping in our facilities and allows us to have full control of what goes
inside.
