18 July 2002
AGE-NC Project No. 02 -0926
AGE proposes to slightly modify the locations of soil borings and ground water monitoring wells
to better define: 1)the lateral extent of soil and possible ground water contamination, and 2)the flow
direction and gradient of ground water at the site. The northern and western monitoring wells will
be pulled in to within 20 to 25 feet of the former UST location, as per EHD request in a letter dated
17 March 1999;the southeastern well location will be moved slightly west to the parking lane of the
frontage road(Figure 2). The soil boring inside the auto shop will be located approximately 20 feet
further towards the south-southwest, and the soil boring originally located on the sidewalk will be
moved eastwards to the parking lane of the frontage road.
In addition, during performance of a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, AGE noted several
areas of environmental concern, including the presence of three in-ground sump structures. AGE
proposes to advance a soil boring near each of the in-ground sumps and collect soil samples for
laboratory analysis(Figure 2). One soil boring will be advanced to a depth of approximately 15 feet
below surface grade(bsg)adjacent to each identified in-ground sump.Soil samples will be collected
at five-foot intervals and selected samples will be submitted to a California Department of Health
Services-certified laboratory. Three samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
(TPH), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and RCRA metals.
Procedures for the installation and sampling of the monitoring wells and borings were described in
the UEC-prepared documents Work Plan for Soil and Groundwater Assessment dated 19 February
1999 and Revised Addendum to Site Contamination Work Plan dated 19 May 1999. An AGE-
prepared Site Health and Safety Plan is enclosed.
Also included is a boring permit application and permit fee.If you have any questions or comments,
please contact our office at (209) 467-1006.
Sincerely,
Advanced GeooEEnvironmental, Inc.
animbach
Staff Geologist
enclosure
cc: Sheree Cox, Coldwell Banker Grupe
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
