V y
26 August 2013
AGE Project No. 95-0130
vacuum pump.
Following sample collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a covered
container and transported under chain of custody to CalTech Environmental Laboratories
(CTEL), a California Department of Public Health (CDPH)-certified laboratory. Each sample
was analyzed within 72 hours of collection for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPH-g), volatile aromatic compounds (BTEX) and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in
accordance with EPA Methods 8015M and 8260B.
2.3. SOIL-VAPOR EXTRACTION REMEDIATION FINDINGS
From field and laboratory data collected at the SVE remediation system during the 2nd
quarter 2013, AGE determined the average TPH-g concentration, the average flow rate
and calculated the approximate mass and volume of hydrocarbons removed.
2.3.1. Results of Soil-Vapor Extraction
During the 2nd quarter 2013, the SVE remediation system was operational for a total of
2,180 hours (Tables 2 and 3). During this operational period, total SVE inlet flow rates
generally averaged 69 cubic feet per minute (average differential pressures of 1.55 inches
of water). Utilizing a photo ionization meter (PID) in the field, hydrocarbon concentrations
were measured at concentrations as high as 105 parts per million volume (ppmV)from the
SVE inlet. Field measurements are summarized in Table 2.
2.3.2. Analytical Results of Vapor Extraction SVE Flow Samples
TPH-g were detected in the April, May and June 2013 influent soil-vapor samples at
concentrations of 200 micrograms per liter (pg/1), 140 pg/I and 110 pg/l, respectively.
TPH-g range compounds were not detected in any of the effluent samples.
BTEX constituents were detected in all three influent SVE samples at concentrations as
high as 4.6 pg/I total xylenes; benzene was not detected above reporting limits. BTEX
constituents were not detected in the effluent air flow samples.
MTBE was not detected in any of the influent or effluent samples.
Analytical results of SVE samples are summarized in Table 1. The GeoTracker
confirmation numbers 4610996305, 2808427929 and 2453454196 reference the upload
of the submitted laboratory electronic deliverable format (EDF) files.
