ED ENDICH
KEN ENDICH
PAGE 2
methods for the additional soil borings/monitoring/test wells to PHS/EHD by
May 30, 1995.
The underground storage tank(s) found during this last phase of field work must be
removed in a timely manner. A tank removal plan should be submitted to
PHS/EHD within the next 60 days.
The need for additional assessment with regard to the origin of the groundwater
contaminant plume on this property is unwarranted at this time. Historic groundwater
flow direction data from the Roek site across the street show groundwater flow to be
predominantly to the east, towards that site. The data to date indicates two separate
source areas at each site. The intent of the additional assessment required at this
time is to conclude characterization and initiate source reduction as soon as possible.
The ultimate goal is to achieve site certification and to keep the overall cleanup costs
to a minimum.
The laboratory report in Appendix C was not complete. In addition to the results for
soil borings 63-35', 134-10', 64-20', 134-40', 64-50', 64-60', 135-30' and for the soil
lead analyses, the cover sheet (and any other explanatory documentation) were
missing. Please submit these missing laboratory documents to PHS/EHD.
Also, it appears that the groundwater elevation for monitoring well MW#3 may be in
error. This should be re-evaluated and, if needed, an amendment may be included in
the next quarterly report.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss this letter in more detail, please contact
Linda Turkatte, Senior REHS, at (209) 468-3441.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
C`
Linda A. Turkatte, Senior REHS Diane M. Hinson, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
LT
CC LIST ATTACHED
