1
TANK CLOSURE REPORT
BEACON STATION #419
2350 WATERLOO ROAD
' STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
AMV PROJECT NO. 19011.03
Acton • Mickelson • van Dam, Inc (AMV), has been authorized by Ultramar Inc (Ultramar),
to conduct soil sampling as required during underground storage tank removal at Beacon Station
#419, 2350 Waterloo Road, City of Stockton, County of San Joaquin, California. The site is
' located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Waterloo Road and Sierra Lane (Figures 1
and 2) The surrounding area is comprised of both residential and commercial properties
' 1.0 BACKGROUND
' Petroleum product storage at the site consisted of three 10,000-gallon, single-wall steel,
underground storage tanks (USTs) for motor vehicle fuel storage The former locations of the
USTs as well as other site structures are illustrated on Figure 2 The three USTs contained
various grades of unleaded gasoline, the easternmost tank contained premium unleaded gasoline,
the middle tank contained unleaded plus, and the westernmost tank contained regular unleaded
' gasoline (Figure 2)
No previous work has been performed by AMV at the subject site Three soil borings
' designated as SB-1, SB-2, and SB-3 were advanced by another consulting firm at the site in
March 1991 (Figure 2) Eleven sod samples were collected from these borings and submitted
for analysis of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX), as well as total petroleum
' hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) Of these constituents, only xylenes were detected Xylenes
were found in 3 of the 11 samples; none of the samples contained xylenes at concentrations
exceeding 0 1 parts per million (ppm). It is believed that the detection of these low levels of
xylenes could have resulted from tape used to secure the end caps of the sample collection tubes
No benzene or TPHg was detected in any of the soil samples collected
' 2.0 UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVAL
AND RELATED SOIL SAMPLING
1
' The UST removal was conducted by Walton Engineenng of West Sacramento, California All
soil removed from the UST area during the tank removal was stockpiled on site until analytical
results were received and reviewed
' RYMN ECD
