California Cedar Products Company
Additional Soil and Groundwater Investigation
• And Well Survey
1340 West Washington Street, Stockton, CA
BACKGROUND
Site Description
The subject site is occupied by California Cedar Products Company, located at 1340 West
E Washington Street in an industrial area approximately one-quarter mile southeast of the Port of
Stockton, in the City of Stockton, California(Plate 1) The Site is at an approximate elevation of
5 feet above Mean Sea Level (MSL) and has relatively flat topography sloping gently toward the
west (USGS, 1980) The Port of Stockton/San Joaquin River is the nearest water body located
0 5 mile north of the Site Groundwater flow direction in the upper saturated zone (Quaternary-
age alluvium) is estimated to be generally in the south to southeast direction
On November 2, 1990, Falcon Energy Associates removed two 12,000-gallon diesel
underground storage tanks (USTs) from Tank Pit 1 Groundwater was not encountered during
IUST excavation and removal
On September 12, 2002, four probes (B-1 through B-4) were advanced to approximately 28 to 30
Ifeet below grade surface (bgs)by RAB Consulting Unconfined groundwater was encountered at
approximately 19 feet bgs A clay aquitard was encountered at approximately 24 5 feet bgs, the
. results of this investigation is documented in RAB Consulting's Preliminary Investigation and
IEvaluation Report dated October 21, 2002
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
Soil Probes/Hydro-punches
Under former permit#SR0031103 issued by the PHS-EHD, RAB Consulting personnel directed
the advancement of five hydro-punches (HP-1 through HP-5) on July 21, 2003 EnProbe, a C-
57 licensed (#C57-777007) drilling subcontractor from Oroville, California, advanced the probes
with a GeoProbe Systems 5410 truck-mounted ng equipped with direct push 2 25-inch-diameter,
four foot long macrocore barrels with 4 foot long 17 inch clear mylar sample tubes for
continuous logging Probes HP-2 through HP-5 were advanced to depths between 25 5 ft to 27 0
ft bgs, and HP-1 was advanced to 34 0 feet bgs at the request of PHS-EHD Fieldwork was
performed by our staff geologist under the guidance of our California Registered geologist Soil
lithology was described using the Munsell Soil Color Charts and Unified Soil Classification
System Boring logs documenting the soils encountered in each probe are attached to this report
Soil and Grab-groundwater Sampling Procedures
Generally, soil samples were collected above the apparent soil/groundwater interface and in the
I sandy unit just above the clay contact No obvious soil staining or odors were observed in the
water interface (vadose zone) Soil samples collected in the sandy unit directly above the
aquitard were submitted to the laboratory for analysis as described in the RAB Consulting Work
Plan Soil samples were collected by directly pushing a 4-foot macrocore with a 4-foot clear
Robert A Booher Consulting 2 November 6, 2003
