TRANSPORTATION AND DISPOSAL : Transportation is not a big issue for Ace Hardware in that we do not generate significant amounts of hazardous waste, nor are we transporting significant amount of hazardous waste . Where we fall short is the proper and legal disposal of hazardous waste . Hazardous waste cannot simply be thrown into the dumpster, nor is it legal or lawful to dump waste onto the ground, bury it, or put it into the storm drain system. Be advised, the storm drains go directly into our river system . . . it is NOT treated in any way before it reaches the water ! Most products have disposal recommendations printed right on the label or in the MSDS (Manufacturers Safety Data Sheet) sheets that are available. If in doubt, Google it. If research does not provide the answer; properly store the product or material until such time as management can determine the proper steps for disposal . This includes ALL unused, returned or damaged products . Remember, if in doubt, treat it as a hazardous waste ! EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLANS AND PROCEDURES . Ace Hardware has an emergency response plan located in Brandon Hibler' s office . It contains the information you will need in the event of a hazardous waste situation including the phone numbers of the various State and County agencies that should be notified. Ace Hardware has also posted "EMERGENCY EVACUATION ROUTE" maps at various locations around the store and warehouse . Our GATHERING POINT in the event of an emergency is the far north corner of the parking lot near the entrance gate . If for any reason that location is not suitable, move to a safe location directly across the street in the pizza restaurant parking lot. The GATHERING POINT enables store management to quickly determine that everyone is out of the building without putting lives at risk. Ace Hardware has Haz Mat Clean Up kits located throughout the store and warehouse . Each kit contains absorbent material for liquids . Always follow proper protocols and procedures for cleaning up spilled or damaged products. In the unlikely event of a propane leak, DO NOT ATTEMPT to deal with it. IMMEDIATELY CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ! Follow the evacuation procedures and secure the store . Do not use the front doors in the event of a propane leak, secure the doors and exit via the warehouse.
