DEPTH TQ GROUNDWATER & LOCATION OF WELLS:
According to maps published by the County Flood Control District,
groundwater is influenced by tidal action, and ranges from 5 to
10 feet below ground level_ Water did not enter the excavation
which was about 10' deep after removal of the UST. However,
during reexcavation of the site in April, 1993, the water table
was found at a depth of 7 feet, and remained fairly constant
during the work. PLATE IV shows depth to groundwater, sea level
datums, in the Spring of 1986, the highest recorded levels during
the past 10 years. However, it is most likely that the water
table in the Port area fluctuates with tidal forces, which may
vary by 5 or 6 feet. Groundwater was encountered at about 8. 5
feet during placement of the monitoring well_
M19H USE OF REMOVED UST:
PLATE V is a generalized map of the property showing the location
of the UST in relation to other features. The tank was used to
fuel company vehicles and other equipment. It had been tested
for integrity in September, 1990, and was shown to be tight. It
was in good condition when removed. The associated piping and
• fuel dispenser did not show any evidence of leaks or severe
corrosion. Refer to prior reports for copies of the tank
disposition tracking records tank tightness test records
BRIEF REVIEW OF PRIOR WORE
November 2. 1992 - A 1,000 gallon UST, dispensing pump and
associated piping were removed from the property by Jim Thorpe
Oil personel. Soil samples taken from beneath the removed tank
were below detection limits, (refer to TABLE I for the results of
those tests. ) A small amount of apparent contamination was noted
on the north wall of the excavation.
November_25. 1992 - The site was reentered to remove additional
spoil from the north wall. Two (2) soil samples were taken; one
of which revealed a minor amount of Toluene. TABLE II summarizes
the results of laboratory analysis of those samples.
February 11 . 1993 -- A workplan was prepared by Wm. J. Hunter &
Associates, (WJH, ) to reenter the site and remove additional
spoil. A copy of that workplan, (w/o attachments, ) is included
as EXHIBIT E.
April 6. 1993 - The site was again reentered to remove the
remaining contamination that was present. The work was performed
by Jim Thorpe Oil, (JTO, ) under the supervision of a registered
geologist from WJB. Five (5) soil samples were taken from the
sides of the excavation & three (3) from the removed spoil which
3
