casing with a locking cap will be cemented in place In areas of,high traffic, the monitoring wells will
be completed flush with grade and a lockable protective cover will be secured in place.
Following their installation, each monitoring well will be developed to remove all material that resulted
from the installation process that may clog the well screen An over-pump, surge-pump, or other
appropriate method will be used for well development The monitoring wells will be considered
sufficiently developed when their discharge is significantly free of sand, silt, and discoloration, or until
further development yields no improvement in the produced water. To prevent cross contamination
' during well development, dedicated tubing, check valves, and fittings may be used for each well-
' The proper development of the wells will ensure measurement of representative groundwater levels and,
if petroleum hydrocarbon fuel is present, a more representative petroleum hydrocarbon fuel thickness
All petroleum hydrocarbon product and contaminated water produced during monitoring well
' development and subsequent sampling will be containerized and will remain the property of the client
Alternatively, fluids may be discharged according to any applicable regulations
A3 Monitoring Well Surveying
' The elevations of the tops of casing for all the monitoring wells will be surveyed and marked The
elevation of a known benchmark, if available, will be used as a reference point, otherwise a point will
be selected in the field and marked The purpose of the surveying is to allow the water depth measured
in each well to be corrected for topographic elevation differences, and well construction differences.
At least two sets of water level measurements will be taken after monitoring well development The
purpose of the two sets of water levels is to cross check levels and to discover any anomalies
' A.4 Groundwater Sampling
Groundwater samples will be collected from all of the monitoring wells in which free product 1s not
detected To ensure the acqutsition of high quality samples, the standard sampling protocol will be
used All groundwater sampling will be conducted by Du Pont field personnel
The well cover, cap, and casing will be inspected to ensure the integrity of the system Should there
be evidence that the integrity of the system has been violated, the section manager and the project
manager will be notified for instructions The water level and total depth in each monitoring well will
be measured and recorded to calculate the well's volume An accurate water level measurement will
be obtained with a conventional electronic water level meter At least three well volumes of water will
then be Purged' om each monitoring well in order to remove water that would otherwise blas a
representative groundwater sample. The method of purging(either bailer or pump)will depend on the
recovery rate of the monitoring well Produced fluids will be handled as described above
' 4005111 Rev 0 Du Pont Environmental Remediation Services A-3
Printed on Recycled Paper
