COMMENT 6:
Present laboratory results in table format for all soil and ground water samples analyzed
for this site, including those collected at the time the tanks were removed. The sample
locations and depths are to be specified on a site map.
RESPONSE TO COMMENT 6:
Previous laboratory results for soil samples taken during removal of each of tanks at
locations 1 and 2 are available from reports by Canonie Labs numbered 85-052-4277 and
85-052-4314 (Attachment 3). The Canonie reports list analytical results in tabular format
and also shows sample locations and depths on the field sampling log for each report. A
summary of information for each tank location for the SAWP follows.
Location 1:
Field sampling logs and laboratory results for soil samples taken at the time the 500-gallon
tank at Location 1 (Plate 2, SAWP) was removed are contained in the report for Thorpe
Oil by Canonie Environmental, dated June 2, 1988. This report designates the SAWP
Location 1 (500 gallon) tank as tank #5 in the Canonie report and indicates that 2 samples
were taken at a depth of 12 feet. The laboratory results are tabularized in the Canonie
report as #5 and indicate BTX, PCB and purgeable halocarbons were nondetect. Total
extractable petroleum hydrocarbons were detected at 26 mg/kg.
Location 2:
The Location 2, 1,000-gallon tank located by the tire shop (Plate 2, SAWP) was sampled
during removal as shown in Canonie Report Number 85-05-4314, dated June 7, 1989. This
report designates the SAWP Location 1 (1,000-gallon waste oil) tank as the only tank
during their removal assessment and indicates two samples were taken at a depth of 16 feet
at each end designated as Samples WO-East and WO-West.
Analytical results indicate that BTX, PCB, and purgeable halocarbons were nondetect.
Total extractable hydrocarbons were detected at 620 mg/kg for the WO-east sample and
320 mg/kg for the WO-west sample.
COMMENT 7:
Provide a detailed site history including information on all former underground storage
tanks (including tank age, content, size, precision test results).
RESPONSE TO COMMENT 7:
Site history for the tanks per discussions with Mr. Leon Admusen and Mr. Steve Thomson
of County Public Works indicates that the tanks were apparently used for waste oil and that
the tank ages were at least 20 years but unknown. The tank sizes are 500 and 1,000 gallons
each as shown on SAWP Plate 2. Precision tests for theses tanks were not known to have
been performed according to these sources.
COMMENT 8:
The work plan should address the contaminated soil remaining in the tank pit. The soil
may be a continuing source of further contamination.
192-89-1077 3
KLEINFELDER 9795 Business Park Drive, Suite C, Sacramento, CA 95827 (916) 366-1701
