After the tanks were removed, the bottom of the excavation was
excavated an additional 4 feet in depth. Results of soil tests
taken (appendix A) after removal of the tanks and the
overexcavation revealed no diesel fuel contamination at the tank
removal site, but did reveal diesel contamination along the fuel
dispensing pipe. Please refer to figure 3 for tank and piping
sample locations. The results of these soil tests are summarized
in Table A.
The soil excavated from the tank removal site was placed on
visquene plastic in the Contaminated Soil Stockpile Area shown on
Figures 1 and 2 . Results of soil tests (appendix A) taken on the
stockpile revealed minor to moderate amounts of diesel
contamination. These results are shown on Table B. The County
then contracted with Forward Inc. Landfill to dispose of the
contaminated soil. The contaminated soil was transported to the
Forward Inc. Landfill. copies of manifests are contained in
appendix B.
The excavation area for the two underground diesel storage tanks
was subsequently backfilled with clean material and approved by the
Environmental Health Division (LEA) of the San Joaquin County
Department of Public Health Services.
Dispenser Area
The LEA required further investigation regarding the extent of
diesel contamination below the former dispenser location.
