(AGE) and has the following comments.
The Work Plan proposes the installation of five groundwater monitoring wells to investigate the lateral
extent of the shallow plume of 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA)currently documented on your site in four
of nine groundwater monitoring wells. The proposed monitoring wells will be located down and cross
gradient to onsite well MW-8. They will be 2-inch diameter well casings built to approximately 85 feet
below surface grade, with 20 feet of screened casing to intercept first encountered groundwater.
Actual depth of the wells may vary depending on conditions encountered during drilling.
AGE proposes to collect soil samples for soil classification in `selected borings', beginning at 10 feet
below surface grade. SJCIEHD recommends collecting soil samples for classification from each
boring at 5-foot intervals. Soil samples will be screened for the presence of organic vapors using a
photo-ionization detector.
SJCIEHD approves the proposed installation of the shallow groundwater monitoring wells to define the
lateral extent of the shallow 1,2-DCA plume. Please proceed with submittal of a San Joaquin County
Well Permit Application, the required $89.00 permit fee and $294.00 permit inspection fee for each
parcel of land on which drilling will take place. Offsite work also requires access agreements and/or
encroachment permits.
If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
