(AGE) and has the following comments.
One 550-gallon underground storage tank (UST)was removed from this site in January 1988. A site
investigation began later that same year. The site underwent remediation by soil vapor extraction
and air sparging (SVEIAS)from March. through December of 1999. Confirmation soil borings were
advanced in July 2000. Two of the soil samples collected from the confirmation borings reported
total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel: 410 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg)at 25 feet below surface
grade (bsg), and 1:13 mg/kg at 45 feet bsg. These results pass the environmental screening levels
for potential threat to indoor air.
There are currently nine groundwater monitoring wells and one soil vapor extraction well at this site.
Groundwater monitoring and sampling is conducted on a semi-annual schedule. Analytical results
have been non-detect for all constituents analyzed since December 2001, with the exception of
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA)which is consistently reported in four wells: MW-6, up gradient; MW-5,
source area; MW-7 and MW-8, down gradient. The Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central
Valley Region (RWQCB)will not concur with closure of contaminated UST sites that are not fully
defined. Please prepare a work plan for the installation additional groundwater monitoring well(s)to
define the lateral extent of the 1,2-DCA in groundwater. The RWQCB requested a minimum of three
additional wells lateral to MW-8 (one down gradient, two cross gradient). The work plan is due for
submittal to SJCIEHD no later than September 28, 2007.
In the Report AGE recommends discontinuing analysis of groundwater samples for all petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents that have been reported as non-detect since 2001. SJCIEHD agrees with
this recommendation. Further groundwater analyses may be limited to 1,2-DCA. If you have any
questions please call Lori Duncan at(209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
