PUBLTC HEALTH SERVICES
o
.G
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
JOGI KHANNA M.D.,M.P.H.
Health Officer
P.O. Box 2009 (1601 East Hazelton Avenue) • Stockton,California 95201
(209) 468-3400
JAN 2 5 1991
D
Carmelita Cozad ly
Cozad Trailers
4907 Waterloo Road
Stockton, CA 95205
RE: Cozad Trailers IN REPLY REFER TO SITE CODE: 2379
4907 E. Waterloo
Stockton, CA 95205
We have completed our review of the "Initial Soil Investigation, "
dated November, 1990, submitted by Gemini Petrographic
Investigations.
Our records show that when the 1000 gallon gasoline tank was
removed from your site the tank and piping were in poor condition
and there was odor evidenced in the soil. The detection limits
used by the laboratory on these soil samples were not sensitive
enough (1000 parts per billion (ppb) ) . Even with these detection
limits xylene was detected at 5600 ppb and total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G) were detected at 200, 000 ppb in
the soil samples. The resampling of the soil in the excavation in
May, 1989 again detected TPH-G at 124 parts per million (ppm)
(124 , 000 ppb) .
The diesel tanks removed in June, 1989, were in good condition but
discoloration of the soil was noted. The detection limits used by
the laboratory on the soil samples from this activity again were
not as sensitive as those listed in the LUFT manual.
The re-excavation of the former gasoline tank location in January,
1990, confirmed TPH-G at 14 ppm in a sidewall soil sample and total
petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-D) at 39 ppm. The soil
sample from the bottom of this excavation confirmed TPH-D at 11
ppm. The detection limits used by the laboratory for benzene,
toluene, xylene, and ethyl benzene were again not as sensitive as
those listed in the LUFT manual so a good assessment of the
contamination in the soil at this site cannot be made.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services 0
