Covenant
Environmental
San Joaquin County 8 May 1990
Air Pollution Control District
1601 East Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, CA. 95201
Att: Jorge de Guzman
An authorization for uncontrolled soil aeration was applied for on
8 February-1990 by COZAD TRAILERS, 4907 East Waterloo, Stockton.
This authorization was received 26 February 1990.
The total volume of the contaminated soil was less than ten cubic
yards; This soil had been moved from the excavation site to the
extreme southeast corner of the property where it was deposited on
and covered with "poly" sheeting material. This 'anerobic' state
was maintained for more than three months to favor the soil decomp-
ositiou bacteria which degrade the long-chain (nonvolatile) hydro-
carbons of the diesel fraction. The soil was unwrapped, spread to
i approximately a four inch depth, and turned daily during the last
week of March.
Sampling was performed by Canonie Field Analytical [Colleen Andreatta]
and this author. Soil cores were removed from the four corners and
the middle of the aeration zone prior to be composited by the labora-
tory for analysis. Requests for analyses were for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbon (TPH) gasoline and Diesel. The aromatics [Benzene, Toluene
and Xylenes] were not requested since all the previous data had failed
to indicate the presence of any except Xylene and this at only 5.6 mg/kg.
SAMPLE ANALYTICAL RESULTS
PRIOR TO FOLLOWING AERATION
AERATION
TPH..GASOLINE 90 mg/kg TPH..GASOLINE N.D.
