MtBE was detected in
Soil at 0.650 mg/kg. Although found at shallow depths, the ability of MtBE to travel through soils in
relatively narrow pathways is of concern. Therefore, we do not concur with San Joaquin County's
closure recommendation at this time. For our concurrence, Jay's Mini Mart must show, through
analytical data, that groundwater at the site has not been degraded by constituents from the underground
storage tanks. Also, a sensitive receptor survey must be completed unless it is determined that there are
no impacts on groundwater.
If you have any questions, please call Marty Hartzell at (916) 255-3115.
WILLIAM JMARSHALL
Chief, Site Cleanup Section
Enclosures (NFAR Memorandum and Checklist)
cc: Mr. Jay McIlrath, P.O.Box 326, Stockton, CA 95201
Ms. Sandy Gill, State Water Resources Control Board,UST Cleanup Fund, Sacramento
Mr. Jeffrey A.
