PHS will',be notified prior to
subsurface activities. J f
2.2 UTILITY CLEARANCE
Underground Service Alert (USA) will be notified at least two working days prior to any
subsurface activities at 1-800-227-2600. Drilling locations ill be marked with white paint prior
to notifying USA. USA will notify its member organizationsIl which includes most major
subsurface utility providers. The individual utility providers will mark the locations of their
underground:utilities on the sidewalk and street adjacent toi the site.
' Sampling locations will be cleared of subsurface obstructions by hand auguring to 5 feet bgs or
until undisturbed native soil is encountered prior to using the direct push rig.
ii
QI 2.3 FIELD INVESTIGATION PROCEDURES
2.3.1 Soil Sampling
Four locations will be sampled using a direct push rig to determine the vertical and horizontal
extent of soil':'contamination.. SB-1 will be located over the center of the former UST excavation
to determine the maximum vertical extent of soil contamination. Soil samples will be collected
at 7 feet (the:depth of the base of the former excavation) I'Ii d every 5 feet to the groundwater
table. The 7-foot soil sample and two consecutive nondetect, as determined by field screening
1
instruments, soil samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis from SB-1. j
SB-2 will be located down gradient, SB-3 will be located up gradient, and SB-4 will be located
cross gradient of the former UST excavation. These locations will be used to determine the
horizontal extent of soil contamination. Soil samples will be collected every 5 feet to the I
I groundwater table. Two soil samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis from each of
these borings°
i
t
LIPROJECfS\PEPBOYS.WP 2 Jw fy 1997 `
