*-*4 Mr.Nuel Henderson
generally flowed towards the northeast. Groundwater monitoring data are summarized in Table 1.
Monitoring data sheets and well construction details are included in Attachment A.
Hydrogen Peroxide Injection Long Term Pilot Test
Ground Zero, in conjunction with Del Tech Geotechnical Services, Inc. (Del Tech), initiated the
hydrogen peroxide (11202) injection pilot test on November 19, 2010. On November 12, 2010,
prior to the initial H2O2 injection event, plain water was pumped into vapor extraction wells
VWl, VW2 and VW6 to test each wells capacity to accept the upcoming injections. The results
` were favorable.
Initial Injections
Between November 19, 2010 and December 6, 2010 Ground Zero and Del Tech technicians
injected approximately 715 gallons of H2O2 into well VWl, 502 gallons of H2O2 into well VW2
and 630 gallons of H2O2 into well VW6. During each injection a dilute solution of H2O2 was
gravity-injected into wells VWl, VW2 and VW6. The H2O2 solution was followed by an injection
of water to force the H2O2 solution into the formation. The strength of the H2O2 during the initial
injection events ranged from 2.0% to 5.8%. Subsequent injection events were conducted by the
Ground Zero technician on January 24, 2011 and February 8 and 9, 2011. Results were reported
in the Semi-Annual Groundwater Sampling and Peroxide Injection Report dated Marcy 10, 2011.
Second Quarter 2011 Injections
During the second quarter of 2011 H2O2 injection events were conducted by Ground Zero on
March 31, May 4, June 1 and June 27 2011. During each event, a total of approximately 220 -
225 gallons of 4.8% peroxide solution was gravity fed into the injection wells. Peroxide
injection was followed by a clear water flush of 55 gallons per well to force the peroxide further
` into the formation.
A summary of the H2O2 injection history has been included in Table 2. Field are included in
` Attachment A.
` Groundwater Performance Sampling
Per the Monitoring and Reporting Program, on March 28, 2011, a Ground Zero technician
collected groundwater samples from injection wells VWl and VW2 and on May 17, 2011 a
Ground Zero technician collected groundwater samples from transition zone monitoring wells
MW2, MW5 and MW13B and from injection wells VW1 and VW2. A minimum of three well
.. casing volumes was purged from each well prior to sampling. During the purging process,
physical parameters [pH, electrical conductivity (EC), dissolved oxygen (DO), oxidation
reduction potential (ORP), and temperature] were monitored. Subsequent to parameter
stabilization, and appropriate recovery of initial depth to groundwater measurements,
groundwater samples were collected using dedicated disposable bailers. The groundwater
samples were placed into the appropriate containers, checked for headspace, uniquely labeled,
placed into an ice chest cooled to approximately 4°C, and transported to Argon Laboratories
(FLAP #2359), under chain of custody protocol, for analysis.
r:\GROUNDZEIROEK\REPORTS1Peroxide RIM Test\Rcports12Q1R2011 Remedial Progess Report.doc
V
