GROUND ZERO ANALYSIS, INC. _
2291 W. March Lane, Suite 127D ` '
Stockton, California 95207
Telephone: (209) 952-3481
Facsimile: (209) 952-9892
January 25, 1996
Ms. Linda Turkatte
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
445 North San Joaquin Street
PO Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Subject: Amended Table and Figures for Corrective Action Plan (CAP)
Knowles/Roek Property, 102 South Wilson Way, Stockton, California
Ms. Turkatte:
At your request, Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. (Ground Zero) is writing to address and correct
inconsistencies in the CAP submitted in December 1995. One inconsistency concerns the depth
from which a particular soil sample was collected in boring SB-29. In Table 2 of the CAP, this
sample, which contained 16,000 parts per million TPHg, was identified as "SB29-55.5" and was
represented as having been collected at a depth of 55.5 feet.
Chain of custody documentation, the laboratory report and the boring log identify this sample
as having been collected at a depth of 5.5 feet. Nevertheless, a review of the PID readings and
visual/olfactory observations made during the drilling of SB-29 strongly suggest that the sample
was collected from 55 feet. We feel the sample depth was probably misidentified on the soil
tube end cap and thus transposed incorrectly to the chain of custody. Consequently, for the
present we are retaining the interpreted sample depth of 55.5 feet in Table 2 and on the cross
sections.
The dilemma can be easily solved, if necessary, by a shallow hand auger boring in the location
of SB-29.
Another oversight was the lack of analytical results reported in Table 2 for samples collected
from SB-37/MW-13 at 10.5, 20.5, and 30.5 feet. The cross section(Figure 6) indicates samples
were collected at these depths, but the laboratory results were not summarized in Table 2.
Samples were collected at these depths, and all had nondetectable TPHg and benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) concentrations. Table 2 has been corrected, and is
attached.
groundm\roek\chngs1a.cap
